# Resume after an interruption

A meeting interrupts a failing test. Leave five short lines, then check whether the same failure still applies before you continue.

## A test has to wait

An input check fails just before a meeting. When you return, find the same test and check whether the failure still applies.

The test and outcome here are invented to show a restart note; no one reported these results.

## Leave five short lines

For this example, the note could read:

Current goal — find why the test fails.
Last verified state — it fails with an empty input list.
Open question — should an empty list pass validation?
First action on return — check the input rule, then rerun the test.
Where to resume — the failing test and its input.

Keep the pointer to the test and input so you can find the same case. Skip the transcript; write only what helps you choose the next check.

## Check the task before you continue

When you return, reopen the test and input. If the code and requirements still match the note, use its next step. If either changed, check the related cases before continuing.

If a new request cannot wait, handle or escalate it. Otherwise, note it for later and return to the paused task.

## Skip the note when it adds no help

After a short break, see whether you can find the task and next action without a note. If so, skip it next time.

If you had to reconstruct a decision or input, add only that missing detail next time.

## Limits of this example

Five lines are one possible format, not proof that a note makes work faster or prevents mistakes.

Do not delay urgent work to write a note. For safety-critical work, follow the required handoff and verification steps.
