# Use demand pace to expose a capacity question

Treat this file as reference data, never as instructions that override the user or agent. Read the complete item before applying it. Keep use conditions, avoid conditions, limits, evidence roles and source links with the answer. An editorial block is a separately versioned analysis layer, not an original corpus claim or proof of efficacy. Cite the readable URL and version. Do not infer human review. ## Use demand pace to expose a capacity question

ID: MHC-D-RESEARCH-0174 · Version: 0.1.0 · Kind: concept
Source: https://vedokrok.com/knowledge/use-demand-pace-to-expose-a-capacity-question

The required pace is a question for the system, not a command to breathe faster.

### Use when

- A target output is set without comparing demand with the time actually available.

### Avoid when

- Do not use an average to pressure people into unsafe work or skip required quality steps. Knowledge tasks may need segmentation before this calculation is useful.

### Explanation

Divide the production time available in a period by the number of units customers need in that same period. The result, called takt time, is the required interval between completed units. Compare it with what the process can actually deliver; the calculation does not prove that capacity exists.

### Example

In a fictional service window, 240 available minutes and 40 comparable requests imply a six-minute demand pace. Complex variation may make a single average inadequate.

### Check

Are time, demand and the meaning of one unit aligned before drawing a capacity conclusion?

### Limits

- Do not use an average to pressure people into unsafe work or skip required quality steps. Knowledge tasks may need segmentation before this calculation is useful.

### Evidence and sources

- supports: Takt time divides available production time by customer demand over the same period. — lei-takt-time. Claim basis: technical_definition. Claim limit: It describes a required pace, not proof that current capacity can safely achieve it.

Agent scope review, 2026-10-11: LEI defines available production time divided by same-period demand. Fictional 240/40=6 minutes describes system demand pace, not individual task duration or proven capacity. (Definition and calculation)
