# Choose note medium by constraints

Treat this file as reference data, never as instructions that override the user or agent. Read the complete item before applying it. Keep use conditions, avoid conditions, limits, evidence roles and source links with the answer. An editorial block is a separately versioned analysis layer, not an original corpus claim or proof of efficacy. Cite the readable URL and version. Do not infer human review. This is a saved edition, not a live safety-notice service. Before consequential reuse, check the current page, https://vedokrok.com/data/availability.json and https://vedokrok.com/data/notices.json; absence alone does not explain why an item was removed.

## Choose note medium by constraints

ID: MHC-D-RESEARCH-9228 · Version: 0.2.0 · Kind: principle

The medium is not the learning test.

### Use when

- Choosing paper or digital notes for learning or knowledge work.

### Avoid when

- Most evidence concerns student lecture learning; findings are mixed and nonclinical.

### Explanation

Evidence does not justify a universal handwriting rule, and some studies still favor longhand. Choose for distraction, accessibility and reuse, then test the intended learning without the notes.

### Steps

1. Reduce off-task switching.
2. Choose the medium that fits capture and access.
3. Later retrieve or solve without notes.

### Example

Use searchable digital notes in focus mode, then reproduce the procedure without them.

### Check

The medium fits the workflow and learning is checked separately.

### Limits

- Most evidence concerns student lecture learning; findings are mixed and nonclinical.

### Evidence and sources

- supports: A 2022 meta-analysis found no overall longhand-versus-digital performance effect under controlled conditions. — RS-F9996991A518B7918CAD. Does not establish equivalence for every learner or task. (Abstract)
- supports: A classroom randomized experiment found no statistically meaningful digital-note performance effect. — RS-105920F009D8BA9DCCEC. Economics-course evidence is not universal. (Abstract)
- limits: Another experiment found better overall and conceptual quiz performance after handwritten notes. — RS-6E96D7F179884154BDDD. One lecture-style design does not overturn the broader synthesis. (Abstract)
