- Choose a short checklist or a free-form note for an ordinary internal handoff.
- What facts support your preferred option?
- In two sample handoffs, the checklist named the next owner; one free-form note did not. The tasks differed, so this does not establish a general advantage.
- What is the strongest reason it may be wrong?
- A checklist may omit unusual context. A free-form note with clear prompts might work equally well.
- What evidence would change your mind?
- Compare both formats on matched fictional handoffs. Check the next action, owner and missing context. Change the choice if the checklist creates important omissions.
- What will you do next?
- Try the checklist on one non-sensitive handoff, leave room for context and review the receiver's next action. Keep the choice provisional.
